Tooth enamel is a very hard biological substance that is meant to give your teeth the strength to bite and chew food. Unfortunately, there are times when something like a blow to the face or another dental accident can fracture a tooth. If the damage is limited to the tooth enamel layer, your dentist, Dr. Anthony Foster, might recommend repairing the tooth with a dental crown in Brooklyn, New York.

This treatment method calls for creating a replica of the tooth enamel layer from either porcelain, gold or base metal alloys. The crown itself is hollow to allow it to be anchored on a post-like abutment that is formed from the core structures of the tooth.

Once the tooth enamel has been removed, Dr. Anthony Foster will make an impression of the abutment and any corresponding teeth. This also includes the teeth in your bite pattern that will match up with the final crown.

The impression will be sent to a dental lab where your new crown will be prepared. Then a hard, plastic temporary crown will be cemented over the abutment to protect it.

Dr. Anthony Foster will call you back into our office for a brief second appointment when the crown is ready. The temporary crown will be removed and your new crown will be cemented onto the abutment with a special dental adhesive.

If you have a fractured tooth, you should call 718-673-8060 to have it examined and treated at Foster Dental.
