The molars in the back of your mouth are large and responsible for doing a lot of grinding and chewing food. Since they work in concert with other molars, it can significantly impair your ability to chew food when one is lost to decay or is knocked out. When a back molar is lost, it cannot be effectively replaced by having Dr. Anthony Foster install a dental bridge.

In a case like this, the only effective method for replacing the molar is to have a dental implant installed. To do this, your dentist will refer you to a local oral surgeon who specializes in dental implant procedures.

The implant will be inserted into your jaw during a single outpatient appointment where you will need to be deeply sedated. This requires an oral surgeon to make a small incision in the gums to gain direct access the underlying bone.

They will then make a narrow channel into the bone and will screw a titanium abutment into place. Titanium is known to be biologically safe and will eventually fuse with natural bone tissues to provide a strong anchor for an eventual dental crown.

Once the titanium abutment has fully fused with the surrounding bone tissues, Dr. Anthony Foster can go about the standard practice of installing the crown onto the abutment. Most crown molars are made from durable gold or base metal alloys.
