Do you suffer from gum recession? If so, your gums tend to move away from your teeth and expose their roots. This makes the teeth look long and it can even cause tooth sensitivity. This oral tissue condition is usually caused by things irritating the gums. Sometimes it can be plaque, brush bristles, and the wrong oral hygiene products that can be causing the irritation. To help you stop your gum recession, our dentist, Dr. Anthony Foster, encourages you to do the following things:

-Use an electric toothbrush: An electric toothbrush can keep you from brushing too hard. This is because the brush does the brushing for you. All you need to do is slide the bristles across the teeth and let them do all the work. There is no scrubbing involved. Some brushes even have pressure sensors that tell you that you’re brushing too hard.

-Don’t use the wrong toothpaste: Tartar-control and whitening toothpaste can irritate the gums and progress your recession. It’s best to avoid these toothpastes and just stick to regular fluoride toothpaste if possible.

-Visit your dentist regularly: During these appointments, our team will remove the plaque and tartar from your teeth and gumline. This can help because these two substances are enemies to the gums and they are known to cause gum recession.
