Getting a piece of food stuck between your teeth during the course of a meal is rarely a serious cause for concern. However, there are times when you might be eating a hard or tough food like beef jerky, or popcorn, and a piece of it becomes stuck between your teeth. Sometimes this can even cause pressure, discomfort, and pain. 1- Please avoid using toothpicks or any kind of sharp tool to pry the piece of food loose. Sharp objects can potentially damage your teeth and injure your gums. Instead, waxed dental floss is the first thing you should reach for. The waxy coating allows the strand to slide smoothly between teeth to worked around the lodged food particle.

2- Be sure to floss gently, do not force the floss or snap it between your teeth as this could also injury your gums. You can also try using a floss threader with waxed dental floss to loosen the object from a different angle.

3- A water flosser or oral irrigator is another safe method of removing stuck food as well. This device creates a concentrated stream of water to dislodge the material. Even if it doesn’t loosen the object, it can rinse away other debris and give you a clearer view of the problem
